Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) API
The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) is the de-facto world standard for the presentation and delivery of wireless information and telephony services on mobile devices. It is an open specification that defines both a communications protocol and an application environment. It solves the transport and content problems of the constrained wireless environment, bringing Internet content and advanced data services to mobile devices. Based on existing Internet standards (such as IP, HTTP, and Extensible Markup Language [XML]), WAP sits on top of existing bearer channel standards (such as Code Division Multiple Access [CDMA], Global System for Mobile Communications [GSM], and General Packet Radio Services [GPRS]), so any standard can be used with the WAP protocols.
The following elements are associated with the WAP API:
- Wireless Application Protocol Functions
- Wireless Application Protocol Structures
- Wireless Application Protocol Enumerations
The entire set of WAP attributes and operations are defined in the header files wap.h and pushclient.h. For more information about WAP, see the WAP technical specifications at https://www.wapforum.org/what/technical.htm.
