Module 2: Using CIM Studio and the IIS Metabase for a Clearer Picture
This module explains the relationship between the IIS metabase and the structure of WMI, and compares it with the structure of ADSI. A tool called CIM Studio walks you through the IIS WMI provider and the IIS metabase at the same time. CIM Studio comes with the WMI SDK, which can be downloaded from Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) SDK on MSDN. It is strongly recommended that you install CIM Studio and use it as instructed to learn to use the IIS WMI provider more quickly. If you are already familiar with WMI, it is recommended that you skim through this section.
This module includes the following lessons:
- Lesson 1: Navigating to the IIS WMI Provider in CIM Studio: Applies what you learned in Module 1 about the classes used by the IIS WMI provider to find the classes in CIM Studio.
- Lesson 2: Viewing the Properties and Methods of the IIS WMI Provider: Describes how to browse through the nodes of the classes to reach the properties of the IIS metabase and the methods that can be applied to them and view instances of the properties to see what data is currently in the IIS metabase.
- Lesson 3: Changing Properties of the IIS Metabase: Walks through backing up the IIS metabase to protect your Web server; administering the IIS metabase using IIS Manager, CIM Studio, the IIS metabase file; and simple scripts using WMI and ADSI.
