Troubleshooting Setup and Server Issues

This section addresses issues relating to setting up and managing the server. For additional information, refer to the Readme files.

Installing SMTP Services

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Services are required if you plan to take advantage of mail services in your workflow application. The SMTP Services are included with Microsoft® Windows® 2000.

To verify or install SMTP Services on your computer

  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, and then select Add/Remove Windows Components to add the new component.
  3. In the Components list, select Internet Information Services (IIS), and then click Details.
  4. If the SMTP Service option is not selected, select it, and click OK.
  5. Click Next, and continue with the installation wizard.

Adding the Issue Tracking Sample Template to the modSystem Database

If you receive an error when installing the Workflow Services for SQL Server stating that setup was unable to add the template to the modSystem database, you can add the template to the database manually using the Workflow Manager for SQL Server.

To add a template to the modSystem database manually

  1. In the Workflow Manager, enter a server name, and click Refresh.

  2. Select the Templates tab.

  3. If the desired template is not listed, select Import from File.

  4. Browse to the location of the template (*.tpl file). The default installation location is:

    ..\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Microsoft Office Developer\Bin\(LCID)\issuestemplate.tpl

Uninstalling Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine

If you have problems uninstalling Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Desktop Engine, make sure its services are stopped before attempting to uninstall.

To uninstall the desktop engine

  1. Right-click the SQL Server Desktop Engine symbol on the Windows Task Bar, and click Stop.
  2. Right-click the SQL Server Desktop Engine symbol again, and then choose Exit.
  3. From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then choose Control Panel.
  4. Select the Add/Remove Programs option, and choose to uninstall Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Desktop Engine.

Changing a SQL Server Password

During installation of the Workflow Services for SQL Server, you are asked for a user name and password. If you change the password for that user ID, it must be changed for the SQL Services as well as in the MODTBAD server component, which is installed as part of the Workflow Services for SQL Server.

For information about changing passwords in Microsoft® SQL Server™, see SQL Server Books Online.

To change the user ID for MODTBAD

  1. Run DCOMCNFG on the server.
  2. In the Applications property page, click MODTBAD.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. On the Identity tab, change and confirm the password for the user.
