The Workflow Application User Directory

The Workflow Manager for SQL Server makes it possible for you to keep the list of workflow application users up to date by synchronizing the workflow application User Directory with user information from Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Active Directory and Microsoft® Exchange 5.5 Server accounts. The data, which is displayed in the User Information tab in the Workflow Manager, is stored in the modUserList table in the modSystem database. Storing user information in one place makes it easy for your workflow application to access this information at run time.

Note   To synchronize the user directory, SQL Server must be logged on as the Windows domain account. If you change the MSSQLServer Service to log on as the System account, synchronization will not be successful.

If your group uses Exchange 5.5 Server, you can synchronize your user directory with the Exchange Global Address List (GAL). You can synchronize the user information manually or set a schedule to synchronize it on a regular basis automatically. By setting a synchronization schedule, your user directory is synchronized at the dates and times you specify. If your group uses Exchange 2000 Server, then synchronize with Active Directory.

Note   If you are using synchronization to update the user directory from Exchange Server, any manual changes you make to the user directory will be lost with the next synchronization.
