Windows Embedded CE provides the Real-time Communications (RTC) Client API, which supports the following functionality:

  • Setting up VoIP connections between Windows Embedded CE-based devices, Windows XP-based systems, third-party SIP user agents, or Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) phones.
  • Initiating text-messaging sessions. These can occur simultaneously with voice connections.
  • Receiving presence information that enables you to see if your contacts are online, changing your own presence state and sending notifications, and monitoring who is watching your online presence.

In addition to the information in this section, you can also learn more about RTC Client API development using the documentation for the desktop version of the RTC Client API, at this Microsoft web site.

For information about the differences between the desktop and Windows Embedded CE implementations of the RTC Client API, see Comparing Windows Embedded CE and Desktop RTC Implementations.
