The following Management Packs are shipped with Operations Manager 2007.
Microsoft Exchange 2003
The Microsoft Exchange 2003 Management Packs monitor Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and includes rules and scripts to track performance, availability, and reliability of Exchange core components and functionality. It contains the following features:
- Synthetic transactions for logon and mail
- Mail queue monitoring using self tuning thresholds
- Comprehensive performance metric collection
- 1000+ Event rules with associated knowledge
- Database status
- Statistics for mailbox, public folder, message log tracking, and database size
- Exchange and related operating service monitoring
- Configuration monitoring
- Topology discovery of Exchange deployment
- Integration with Exchange Best Practice Analyzer and the ExDiag tools
- Reports in the area of configuration and configuration changes, availability, and performance
Microsoft Information Worker
The Microsoft Information Worker Management Pack monitors Information Worker applications, such as Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Windows Media Player. It monitors the performance, availability, and reliability of Information Worker applications. The Management Pack can detect and notify you of the following types of conditions:
- An Information Worker application is consuming high volumes of system resources
- An Information Worker application has unexpectedly stopped responding
- Information Workers cannot reach the Internet or intranet
- Information Workers are unable to access the data sources that Information Worker applications depend on
- An Information Worker is unable to send or receive mail through Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
The Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server Management Packs monitor the availability and performance of portal servers. By detecting and providing the ability to respond to critical states and performance indicators, this Management Pack helps identify, correct, and prevent possible server- and portal- related outages. The Management Pack can detect and notify you of the following types of conditions:
- Service availability, health and performance
- SharePoint Portal Server Web site performance and health
- Configuration and content database performance, availability and health
The SharePoint Portal Server Management pack uses Service Oriented Monitoring technology to discover and manage portal-related Web sites and databases. This enables you to manage end-to-end Share Point portal servers and their dependencies. Additionally, SharePoint Portal Server Farms can be modeled by using the Distributed Application template.
Microsoft System Center ASP.NET 2.0 2007
The Microsoft System Center ASP.NET Management Pack provides a consolidated view of all applications featuring simple health status indicators in the Operations Console. It includes the following features:
- Quick identification of faulty application components and performance hotspots
- Manual and automatic routing of alert notifications to the appropriate application support team
- Root cause information about exception and performance events
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005
The Microsoft SQL Server Management Packs provide both proactive and reactive monitoring of computers running SQL Server in an enterprise environment. The Management Pack is designed to discover, monitor, and report on SQL Server components, such as the database engine and databases at a granular level. Because of the granular monitoring and reporting, it can be used to monitor line of business and other types of distributed applications. The Management Pack monitors the following areas:
- SQL Database Availability from both local and client perspectives
- Database space and growth monitoring
- Replication monitoring
- SQL agent job monitoring
- Blocking processes and long running job monitoring
- SQL configuration monitoring
- General SQL Server performance monitoring
Microsoft Windows Active Directory 2003
The Active Directory Management Pack monitors Active Directory and the external components that are related to Active Directory. It provides forest-wide monitoring of the directory service and its required subsystems. In addition to real-time performance and event monitoring, it allows you to respond immediately to critical performance, health, or capacity issues. It includes the following features:
- Core services, dependent services, and SYSVOL or DC Locator availability monitoring
- Synthetic transactions for general Active Directory, Global Catalog, and Operations Master Roles
- Synthetic replication performance monitoring and replication health
- Comprehensive performance metric collection that is based both on synthetic transactions and performance counters
- Independent client-side monitoring
- Database and log file growth or free space monitoring
- Comprehensive list of tasks to diagnose problems
- Active Directory topology discovery
- 400+ Event rules with associated knowledge
- Reports in the area of configuration and configuration changes, availability, and performance
Microsoft Windows Client Operating System (2000, XP, Vista)
The Microsoft Windows Desktop Base Operating System Management Packs monitor the performance, health, and availability of Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista client operating systems. This Management Pack monitors the following areas:
- Windows service and application availability, reliability, and performance
- Storage availability and performance
- System availability, reliability, and performance
This Management Pack is designed to monitor both general and critical client operating system populations. For the general client population availability, reliability, and performance data is collected and can be leveraged in the client operating system reports. Specific client computers can be designated as critical clients to enable them to generate alerts for critical conditions.
Microsoft Internet Information Services
The Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Management Pack suite monitors the availability and performance of IIS servers. . The Management Pack helps identify, correct, and prevent possible IIS server-, site-, and virtual server-related outages. Specifically the Management Pack monitors for the following types of conditions:
- Internet Information Services server availability and health
- Internet Information Services server performance
- Web and FTP site availability, health and performance
- SMTP and NNTP Virtual Server availability, health, and performance
The IIS Server Management pack is useful in Service Oriented Monitoring because it is designed to discover, monitor, and report on IIS Server components at a granular level. Because of the granular monitoring and reporting, the Management Pack can be used when defining and monitoring Line of Business and other types of distributed applications. The IIS Management Pack also collects performance analysis and capacity planning data by tracking application performance and user load.
Microsoft Windows Server Operating System (2000 and 2003)
The Microsoft Windows Base Operating System Management Packs monitor the performance and availability of Microsoft Windows Base Operating Systems. By detecting, alerting on, and automatically responding to critical events and performance indicators, this Management Pack helps indicate, correct, and prevent possible operating system service outages. The Windows Base Operating System Management Pack helps ensure that the operating systems and its components are available and working correctly. The Management Packs monitor the following areas:
- Windows Service and Application Availability, Reliability, and Performance
- Storage Availability and Performance
- System Availability, Reliability, and Performance
Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 2003
The Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Management Packs monitor the availability and performance of Windows SharePoint Services servers and sites. By detecting and providing the ability to efficiently respond to critical states and performance indicators, this Management Pack helps identify, correct, and prevent possible Windows SharePoint Services server- and site-related outages. The Management Pack monitors for the following types of conditions:
- Service performance, availability and health
- Web Site performance, availability and health
- Configuration and Content Database performance, availability, and health
The Management pack uses Service Oriented Monitoring technology to discover and manage Windows SharePoint Services Web sites and databases. This enables you to manage Windows SharePoint Services sites and their dependencies from end-to-end. In addition Windows SharePoint Services Server Farms can be modeled by using the Distributed Application template.
Microsoft Windows Terminal Services 2000 and Terminal Services 2003
The Terminal Services Management Packs monitor the health and performance of Terminal Services components. It includes a rich set of views, tasks, and reports, and provides monitoring for the Terminal Services, Licensing Server, and the Session Directory.
This Management Pack detects and alerts problems with performance, health, and availability. It can automatically respond to critical events and performance indicators. In some cases it identifies issues before they become critical, enabling you to increase the overall availability and performance of your Windows operating systems. It includes the following features:
- Independent discovery and monitoring of Terminal Services in Application mode, Licensing Server, and Session Directory (2003 only)
- Active and Inactive Session Monitoring using self-tuning thresholds
- Key Terminal services event monitoring with associated knowledge
Operations Manager 2007
The Operations Manager 2007 Management Pack monitors problems with agent deployment and configuration, communications failures, security issues, and the Connector Framework. Other Management Packs depend on the health and availability of the Microsoft Operations Manager 2007 server components and agents, as well as successful forwarding of monitoring data.
Automated tasks provide easy access to common network administration and diagnostic tools. Reports call attention to performance bottlenecks and provide data for capacity planning.
