Updates Publisher Actions
The System Center Updates Publisher has many commands available in the Updates Publisher console. The following table lists the commands, where they are located, and a brief description of each.

Add Product |

Adds a new product under the active vendor node. The default name for the new product is New Product. Products are listed in alphabetical order. |
Add Vendor |
System Center Updates Publisher node |
Adds a new vendor under the System Center Updates Publisher node. The default name for the new vendor is New Vendor. Vendor nodes are listed in alphabetical order. |
Clear All Publish Flags |
Any console tree node |
Clears the publish flag for all software updates in the current node and all subnodes. Only software updates with their publish flag set can be published. |
Clear Publish Flag |
One or more software updates selected |
Clears the publish flag for the highlighted software update. Clear the publish flag on multiple updates by holding down the CTRL key while selecting each update. |
Create Update |
Any console tree node |
Opens the Create Update Wizard where a new software update definition is created. |
Delete |
<vendor name> or <product name> node |
Deletes the console tree node and any sub nodes. The node is deleted only after confirming this action. |
Duplicate |
One software update selected |
Creates a copy of the selected software update definition with the same name, but prefixed by Copy of. Only one update definition can be duplicated at a time. All duplicated definitions have a status of Unexpired and do not have the publish flag set. Updates with the Driver classification type and bundled updates cannot be duplicated. |
Edit |
One software update selected |
Opens the Modify Update Wizard where the highlighted software update definition can be modified. Only one update definition can be modified at a time. Updates with the Driver classification type and update bundles cannot be modified. |
Export |
Any console tree node or One or more software updates selected |
Opens the Export Wizard where Updates Publisher can export the selected software updates definitions to a cabinet (CAB) file to be imported by other publishing tools or to a test catalog XML file for testing. Open the wizard from any node to export only update definitions with the publish flag set or select a console tree node to export all software updates definitions in the node and subnodes. |

Opens the help file for System Center Updates Publisher. |
Hide Filter |
Any console tree node |
Hides the search filter from the Updates Publisher console. The search filter allows the software updates that are displayed to be filtered. This option is only available if the filter is currently displayed. |
Import Update |
Any console tree node |
Opens the Import Software Update Catalog Wizard where new catalogs can be imported. |
Manage Rules |
Any console tree node |
Opens the Manage Rules dialog box where rules can be created, modified, or deleted. |
Publish Update |
Any console tree node |
Opens the Publish Wizard where all software updates that have the publish flag set can be published to the configured update server. |
Rename |
<vendor name> or <product name> node |
Renames the current node. If the new name already exists in the console tree, a message appears asking whether the contents of the current node should be moved to the node with the same name. For example, there are vendors named Vendor1 and Vendor2, each with products defined. Vendor2 is renamed to Vendor1. A message appears asking whether the products from Vendor2 should be moved to Vendor1. Click Yes to move the products to Vendor1 and delete Vendor2, which combines the two vendors. Click No to discard the changes and keep the product Vendor2. |
Refresh |

Refreshes the current view. |
Settings |
Any console tree node |
Opens the Settings dialog box where the import list, update server, data source, trusted publisher, and user and security settings are configured. |
Set All Publish Flags |
Any console tree node |
Sets the publish flag for all software updates in the current console tree node and all subnodes. The tool fails to set the publish flag for any software update definition that does not have an Installed rule or a Windows Installer update definition with an invalid Applicability rule. Only software updates definitions with the publish flag set can be published. |
Set Expire Status |
One or more software updates selected |
Sets the expire status to True or False for the highlighted software updates. Set the expire status on multiple updates by holding down the CTRL key while selecting the updates. > [!IMPORTANT] > There is no way to unexpire a software update that has been set to Expired and then published to the update server. The expire status for software updates can be modified before publishing the updates. |
Set Publish Flag |
One or more software updates selected |
Sets the publish flag for the highlighted software update. Set the publish flag on multiple updates by holding down the CTRL key while selecting the updates. Updates Publisher 4.5 adds the ability to publish only software updates metadata, and when setting the publish flag, you must choose whether to publish the full content (software update metadata and update file) or only the software update metadata. Show Filter |
Any console tree node |
Displays the search filter and allows the software updates displayed to be filtered. This option is available only if the filter is currently hidden. |
