Update Information Page

Use the Update Information page in the System Center Updates Publisher Create Update Wizard or Modify Update Wizard to configure general information about the software update.

This page contains the elements:

  • Update Title
    Specifies the name of the software update. This is a required field. Click the Localized Properties icon to open the Localized Properties dialog box where titles and descriptions can be created for additional languages. The title for the new update that is displayed in the Updates Publisher console will be the same as the Updates Publisher language version. For more information about the languages available, see Languages in Updates Publisher.
  • Description
    Specifies the description for the software update. This is a required field.
  • Classification
    Specifies the classification type for the software update. This is a required field. The following values are available from the drop-down menu:
    • Critical Updates: Specifies a broadly released update for a specific problem that addresses a critical, non-security-related bug.

    • Feature Packs: Specifies new product features that are distributed outside of a product release and typically included in the next full product release.

    • Updates: Specifies an update to an application or file currently installed.

    • Security Updates: Specifies a broadly released update for a product-specific, security-related issue.

    • Service Packs: Specifies a cumulative set of hotfixes that are applied to an application. These hotfixes can include security updates, critical updates, software updates, and so on.

    • Hotfixes: Specifies a cumulative package of one or more files used to address a problem in an existing product.

    • Tools: Specifies a utility or feature that helps to complete one or more tasks.

    • Update Rollups: Specifies a cumulative set of hotfixes that are packaged together for easy deployment. These hotfixes can include security updates, critical updates, updates, and so on. An update rollup generally addresses a specific area, such as security or a product component.

  • Bulletin ID
    Specifies the bulletin ID for the software update. A bulletin ID provides additional information about the update and is usually associated with Microsoft security software updates. Other vendors will occasionally provide the bulletin ID. This is an optional field.
  • Vendor
    Specifies the name of the vendor creating the software update. Existing vendors can be selected from the drop-down menu or a new one can be entered in the text box. If the Create Update Wizard is started from the <vendor name> or <product name> node of the console, this field is automatically populated. This is a mandatory field.
  • Product
    Specifies the name of the product for which the software update applies. Existing products can be selected from the drop-down menu or a new one can be entered in the text box. If the Create Update Wizard is started from the <product name> node of the console, this field is automatically populated. This is a mandatory field.
  • Previous
    Displays the previous page of the wizard.
  • Next
    Displays the next page of the wizard.
  • Finish
    Displays the Summary page of the wizard.
  • Cancel
    Discards the settings and exits the wizard.
