Roles and Responsibilities
Commerce Server 2002 provides a set of features and tools to develop, deploy, and manage Web sites. Working with Commerce Server requires specific skills that span three areas of expertise within an organization. In the following table, Commerce Server features are grouped for use by the three general role categories within an organization, with the skill sets shown.
Role | Expected knowledge |
---|---|
Site developer | Dynamic Hypertext Markup Language (DHTML), Extensible Markup Language (XML), Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects (ADO), HTML Components (HTC), and Active Server Pages (ASP) |
System administrator | Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0 |
Business manager | Business goals, strategies, and processes for creating and running a successful e-commerce Web site |
In your organization these roles might be combined in various ways or they might have different names. However, they represent the three distinct skill sets required to use Commerce Server features.
The following table lists the three roles, provides examples of the tasks performed by each one, and lists the Commerce Server 2002 tools and Help topics that might be used in performing the tasks.
