Changing a Service Account or Password

Several passwords must be maintained for a Commerce Server site, including SQL Server login passwords, Windows service account passwords, and COM+ application passwords. Using Commerce Server Manager, you can change multiple passwords in one place. You can change the SQL Server login credentials across all the resources in a selected site.

When you use Commerce Server Manager to change passwords, an all or nothing approach is taken to allow a user to change all the passwords for services and COM+ applications on a single server at a time and all the SQL server credentials used by the resources in a single site at a time.

Commerce Server Manager connects to the server and stops each Commerce Server service, changes the account and password, and then restarts the service. Last, the COM+ Application identity is changed to use the specified Windows account and password.
