Adding Categories to a Virtual Catalog

The procedure for categories to a virtual catalog is the same as for adding them to a base catalog. For instructions, see Adding a Category to a Catalog.

Each category name in a catalog must be unique. When a virtual catalog inherits categories from multiple base catalogs, it is possible that there will be duplicate category names. To prevent this, when a category is added to a virtual catalog, the name of the base catalog from which the category originates is added to the category name.

For example, assume the following categories are in a base catalog from a fictional manufacturer named Ace Clothes:

Ace Clothes (base catalog name)

Shirts

Pants

When these categories are added to a virtual catalog, the name of the categories in the virtual catalog appear as follows:

All Manufacturers Clothes (virtual catalog name)

Shirts (Ace Clothes)

Pants (Ace Clothes)
