Step 3: Rebuilding the virtual catalog

When you make changes to a virtual catalog, such as including a base catalog, categories, or products, or editing one of the included base catalogs, you must rebuild the virtual catalog. Because you have added the Office Supplies and Office Machines base catalogs to your virtual catalog, and have finished creating categories, you will now rebuild your virtual catalog.

To rebuild the virtual catalog

  1. In the Catalogs module, click Catalog Editor.

    The Catalogs screen appears.

    • Notice that "Requires rebuilding" appears in the Status column of the Virtual Catalog row. This indicates that the virtual catalog needs to be rebuilt.
    • When you rebuild a virtual catalog, any changes that were made to base catalogs that are contained in that virtual catalog, are also rebuilt.
  2. Select Virtual Catalog from the Filtered View list, and click rebuild to rebuild the catalogs and publish them to your site.

  3. In the Business Desk: Rebuild Catalog dialog box, click OK to close the dialog box and continue.

In the Catalogs screen in the Status column for the Virtual Catalog row, the status displayed is "Rebuilding." To see an update of the status, you must refresh the screen. Allow time for Commerce Server to rebuild the catalog before proceeding to the next step.

  4. To refresh the screen, in the Catalogs module, click Catalog Editor.

The screen is refreshed and the status message for Virtual Catalog changes to "Up-to-date." Proceed to Lesson 4: Creating Categories for your SupplierAD Site.
