Joining Web Servers to an Active Directory Domain
If you create a Microsoft Active Directory directory service domain, make sure your Web servers belong to the domain before you install Microsoft Commerce Server 2002. For more information about Active Directory, see Setting Up the Domains.
Note
- You must be logged on as an administrator to the local computer and have a valid user name and password to join the computer to a domain. If you do not know which user name and password to use, contact your system administrator.
To join a domain
Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then click System.
In the System Properties dialog box, on the Network Identification tab, click Properties.
In the Identification Changes dialog box, in the Member of box, select Domain, type the name of the domain you want to join, and then click OK.
You are prompted to provide a user name and password to join the computer to the domain.
Note
- If you want longer names to be recognized by the Active Directory domain, the domain administrator must enable registration of Domain Name System (DNS) names that are 16 bytes or longer.
To close the System Properties dialog box after you have entered the user name and password, click OK.
You are prompted to restart your computer to apply your changes.
