What is a Payment Method?

For the latest version of Commerce Server 2007 Help, see the Microsoft Web site.

A payment method is the way in which customers pay for the items that they purchase on a Web site. Payment methods can include credit cards, gift certificates, purchase orders, cash cards, and custom methods. Commerce Server supports all these payment method types.

By using the Customer and Orders Manager, you can create new payment methods, modify payment methods, and delete payment methods. You can also enable or disable payment methods by using the Customer and Orders Manager. Enabling a payment method means the method is available for customer use on the Web site. Disabling the payment method means that the method is no longer available for customer use. For example, if you created a custom payment method named "Vouchers", and you decided not to use the "Vouchers" payment method on your site for the next three months, you could disable this payment method for this time and then enable it after the three-month period is over.
