ASF Encoding in Media Foundation

In Microsoft Media Foundation, encoders are implemented as Media Foundation transforms (MFTs). Media Foundation supports multiple encoding modes for creating Windows Media Audio and Windows Media Video–based content. The encoding modes depend on the encoding parameters to manage compressed output data. These parameters are the bit rate of the stream, in bits per second, and the buffer window, in milliseconds. During the encoding process, the ASF components abide by the constraints of the buffer.

This section contains the following topics.

Topic Description
Using the Encoder MFT Provides an overview of Media Foundation transforms (MFTs) in the context of ASF encoding.
The Leaky Bucket Buffer Model Describes the leaky bucket model and the parameters that are used by the encoder.
ASF Encoding Types Describes the various encoding methods.
Tutorial: Writing a WMA File by Using CBR Encoding Explains how to write an ASF Windows Media Audio file (.wma) from uncompressed data.
