WSE calls the VerifyToken method for each X509SecurityToken contained in a deserialized incoming SOAP message. The VerifyToken method calls the AuthenticateToken method.

Depending on how the verifyTrust attribute of the <x509> element is configured, the VerifyToken method performs trust chain verification on the X.509 certificate. For details about configuring trust chain verification, see <x509> Element.
