Product details (form)

Click Product information management > Common > Products > Products. Select a product, and then click Edit.

Use this form to maintain product details, to create new products, and to release products to one or more companies.

Navigating the form

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form. 

The tabs and controls that were added to this form for the Warehouse management features in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 are not described in this topic. For information about these features, see Warehouse management.

Buttons

Button	Description
Edit	Change the details of the product information.
Delete	Delete the selected product. Note You cannot delete products that have been released to a company.
Rename	Change the number of the product. Tip If the selected product is a product master, you can also change the number of the associated product variants.
Product	Create a new product.
Product variants	View or create product variants for a product master.
Product dimensions	View or create product dimensions for a product master.
Release products	Add or remove products from a release session. For more information, see Key tasks: Release products.
Translations	Translate text, such as the name or description of a product, to another language.
Dimension groups	Assign product, storage, and tracking dimension groups to a product master.
Product attributes	Maintain product attribute values. For more information, see Set up attributes and attribute types.
Product image	Select an image for the product.
Product categories	Associate the selected product with categories in sales and procurement hierarchies.
Related products	Set up relationship types for the product. You can use product relationship types to indicate whether, for example, a product is an accessory or a product of a similar type.
Unit conversions	Create conversion rules to control the conversion between units of measure for the product.
Configure	Open the Configure kit form to add kit components and component substitutes to the product kit You can also set the kit status and other options for the kit. Note This control is available only if Retail in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 is installed.
Attachments	Select documents to attach to the product.

Fields

Fields	Description
Product number	The identifier of the product.
Product name	The name of the product. Tip If you do not specify a product name, the product number is applied as the product name.
Search name	A short name that is used for product searches. Tip If you do not specify a search name, the product number is applied as the search name.
Description	An additional description of the product. Note You can create and edit the description when a product is created. When you have released a product, the description cannot be changed.
Product dimension group	The product dimension group that is associated with the product master. Note The product dimension group is associated with the product master upon creation, and it cannot be changed.
Storage dimension group	The storage dimension group that is associated with the product master.
Tracking dimension group	The tracking dimension group that is associated with the product master.
Configuration technology	The configuration technology that is associated with the product master to configure product variants.
Allow identical configurations	For a product master, you can select this check box to create product variants that are identical to existing product variants. Tip This check box is available only if the configuration technology for the product master is set to Dimension-based configuration.
Generate variants automatically	Select this check box to generate new product variants when a product dimension is created for a product master. Tip This check box is available only if the configuration technology for the product master is set to Dimension-based configuration or Predefined variant.
