Transaction posting definitions (form)

Click General ledger > Setup > Posting > Transaction posting definitions.
This topic describes how to assign posting definitions to transaction types and specify transaction attributes, after you have created the posting definitions. When a transaction that contains the specified attributes is entered, the ledger line entries that are specified for the posting definition are generated.

To use posting definitions, select Use posting definitions in the General ledger parameters form. When this check box is selected, you must use posting definitions for the transaction types that you select in this form. Posting profiles can be used for any transaction type that is not set up to use posting definitions.

Note Posting definitions provide encumbrance accounting for purchase orders and pre-encumbrance accounting for purchase requisitions. You cannot use posting profiles for encumbrance and pre-encumbrance accounting. |
Accounts payable |
Select posting definitions to associate with the transaction types that are used in Accounts payable. |
Accounts receivable |
Select posting definitions to associate with the transaction types that are used in Accounts receivable. Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |

Budget reservation |
Select posting definitions to associate with general budget reservations. Note General budget reservations are available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected and if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 Cumulative Update 8 is installed with the following hotfix: KB3047235 |
Bank |
Select posting definitions to associate with the transaction types that are used in Cash and bank management. The posting definitions on this tab are used for settlements that create a settlement voucher, regardless of whether the voucher is generated in the payment journal or outside it. The system-generated entries on the settlement voucher are used as match entries on the posting definitions, and any user-defined entries that are generated are appended to the settlement voucher. Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |
General ledger |
Select posting definitions to associate with the transaction types that are used in General ledger for year-end closing and opening processes. Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |
Payroll |

Item code |
Select the item code for each posting type on the Purchasing or Accounts payable tabs. The item code determines the options that are available in the Item relation and Category relation fields.
Note You must select All for at least one posting definition for each transaction posting type. |
Item relation Purchasing and Accounts payable |
If you selected Table or Group in the Item code field, select the item number or item group to associate with the posting definition. |
Category relation Purchasing and Accounts payable |
If you selected Category in the Item code field, select the item category to associate with the posting definition. |
Account code Purchasing and Accounts payable |
Select an account code for each posting type on the Purchasing and Accounts payable tabs. The account code determines the options that are available in the Item relation or Account/Group number fields.
Note You must select All for at least one posting definition for each transaction type. |
Account relation Purchasing and Accounts payable |
If you selected Table or Group in the Account code field, select the vendor account or vendor group to associate with the posting definition. |

Billing value Accounts receivable |
If you selected Billing code in the Attribute type field, select the billing code to associate with the posting definition. If you selected Billing classification in the Attribute type field, select the billing classification to associate with the posting definition. You cannot select the same billing code or billing classification for two different match criteria lines. Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |
Budget code Budget |
Select Table to select an individual budget code or All to select all budget codes. |
Budget code relation Budget |
Select a related budget code from the table if you selected Table in the Budget code field. |
Bank code Bank |
Select the bank code, which determines the options that are available in the Bank relation field.
Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |
Bank relation Bank |
If you selected Table or Group in the Bank code field, select the bank account or bank account group to associate with the posting definition. Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |
Method of payment Bank |
Select the method of payment, which determines the options that are available in the Method of payment relation field.
Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |

If you selected Table in the Method of payment field, select the method of payment to associate with the posting definition. Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. It is not available if you selected All in the Method of payment field. |
Fund class General ledger |
Select the fund class to associate with the posting definition. To include all funds and non-funds, select All. Non-funds do not have a fund dimension in the account structure. The fund class determines how accounts are treated when the fiscal year is closed or opened. Note This control is available only if the Public Sector configuration key is selected. |
Line type Payroll |
Select the line type, which determines the options that are available in the Code and Payroll code fields:

Code Payroll |
Select Table to select an individual payroll code or select All to select all payroll codes that are available for the selected line type. For tax lines, you can also select Group to select a tax group that is enabled for posting definitions. For more information about tax groups, see Tax codes, tax groups, and posting definitions. Note This control is available only if the Payroll - USA configuration key is selected. Tax groups are available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 or cumulative update 7 or later for AX 2012 R2 is installed. |
Payroll code Payroll |
If you selected Table or Group in the Code field, select a related payroll code. For example, if the line type is Earning and you selected Table in the Code field, select an earning code. If the line type is Tax - deduction and you selected Group in the Code field, select a tax group. When you select a tax group, only the tax codes that match the line type use the posting definition. You can specify a different posting definition for a single tax code in the tax group by selecting Table in the Code column and selecting the tax code in this column. Tax codes that aren’t included in either a Table line or a Group line, or that don’t match the line type that is selected for their tax group, use the All posting definition. For more information about tax groups, see Tax codes, tax groups, and posting definitions. Note This control is available only if the Payroll - USA configuration key is selected. Tax groups are available only if Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3 or cumulative update 7 or later for AX 2012 R2 is installed. |
