Working times (form)
Applies To: Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R3, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Feature Pack, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012
Click Organization administration > Common > Calendars > Calendars. On the toolbar, click Working times.
This form is used to create working time calendars to use in Payroll for Microsoft Dynamics AX and in Production control. See the section for Payroll or Production control, depending on how you plan to use the calendar.
Payroll
In Payroll for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, working time calendars are used as position schedules. They identify the days and hours that the workers in the position typically work. They can also be used to specify the earning code that is used for scheduled time.
You can designate in the Position form whether to generate earnings for the position from a schedule or by salary. As a result, you would typically define a calendar for hourly positions and not for salaried positions. If you generate by salary, no calendar is needed, unless a worker goes on paid leave. However, if your organization prefers to break out earnings lines daily, even for salaried workers, you can designate that earnings for the position are generated both from a schedule and by salary. This is convenient, for example, if you must enter a project number for two days out of five every week for a salaried worker. When you select both salary and schedule for a position, the earnings are generated in such a way that the worker is paid the uniform salary amount for each pay period.
To generate earnings lines with a daily breakout when a worker is on an extended leave, you must assign a schedule to the worker’s position, even if you generate earnings by salary for that worker’s position.
Before you create working time calendars, use the Working time templates form to create a template. Set up working times by using the template and not a base calendar. After you define the template and specify the date range to create the working times for, you can view the calendar in its day-by-day breakout.
Tip
By default, the calendar data is filtered to show only records with a date in the past 30 days and all future dates. To clear this filter, select a row in the upper grid, press Ctrl+G, clear the Date filter field value, and then press Enter.

Buttons
Button |
Description |
---|---|
Compose working times |
Open a form where you can specify a working time template. When you close the form, entries in the working times calendar will be generated automatically. |
Fields
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Date |
The dates that earnings statement lines can be generated for. |
Control |
To edit details in the lower grid for the selected date, select Open. This field is not used to determine whether earnings will be generated for a specific date. Earnings are generated for the hours in the lower grid, as long as the value in the Efficiency in percentage field on the line is not zero. |
Closed for pickup |
This field is usually not used for Payroll. |
Earning code defined below |
A green icon in this column indicates that an earning code for this date has been added to the lower grid. Earning codes entered in the lower grid are used when earnings are generated for the selected date from a schedule based on this calendar. If no earning code is entered for a date, the default earning code for the position is used when earnings are generated. |
Calendar |
The identifier of the calendar that uses the working times on this form. |
From |
The start time for positions that use this calendar. For example, the start time can be 07:00 am if that is the starting time for a day shift. |
To |
The end time for positions that use this calendar. For example, the end time can be 03:00 pm if that is the ending time for a day shift. |
Efficiency in percentage |
If you enter zero in this field, no earning statement line will be generated for the hours in the line. If you enter any value other than zero in this field, earning statement lines will be generated for the hours in the line. |
Property |
This field is usually not used for Payroll. |
Earning code |
An earning code entered in this field is used when earnings are generated for the selected date from a schedule based on this calendar. If no earning code is entered in this field, the default earning code for the position will be used when earnings are generated. Note An earning code entered here must have a Unit of measure of Hours on the Earning codes form. |
Production control
Use this form to define the capacity that is available on specific days and at specific times during a working time calendar. Working times are attached to calendars that are associated with an operations resource or an operations resource group. To define working times, you can enter times individually, or you can copy the information into the calendar and then make changes, as needed. Enter the work days and times used in your production, together with any consistent variations to these times, such as holidays or weekends. To create a 24-hour work day, enter 00:00 in the From field and 24:00 in the To field in the 24-hour calendar in the lower part of the form.
Assigning efficiency rates and properties to working times
Efficiency rate – In addition to working times, you can define an efficiency percentage for a resource or group. To specify a pause in working time, enter 0 as the efficiency rate.
Properties – You can select properties for working times for a selected period. This helps you make sure that only jobs that use the property that you select are run on the operations resource that uses the working time calendar. For example, a calendar states that on Tuesdays from 14:00 to 16:00, the property must be Red. This means that on Tuesdays between 14:00 and 16:00, the paint machines in this resource are set up to paint only items that should be red.
Note
Working times are used when you run job scheduling on production orders. They form the basis for the calculation of the start and stop times of individual jobs and operations.

The following tables provide descriptions for the controls in this form.
Buttons
Button |
Description |
---|---|
Compose working times |
Create working times by specifying whether the calendar should be based on the base calendar that is specified or on the calendar transaction. You can also specify the working time template to use. |
Fields
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Date |
The date when the operation time is updated. |
Control |
Specify whether the working time is available on the selected day of the week. You can maintain working times as follows:
Normal working times are created for the operations resources in the company's production system. Other working times, such as shifts and weekend work, can be created in the form of different times per day. You should create known variances, such as holidays, as separate working hours. You can then record variance for the operations resources that are associated with the working time when the variance occurs. An efficiency percentage can be associated with each working time. |
Closed for pickup |
Select this check box if pickup is not possible on this day. |
Calendar |
The identifier of the calendar. |
From |
The start time for the operation per weekday. For example, the start time can be 07:00:00 if that is the starting time for a day shift. This indicates when the current capacity is available. |
To |
The end time for the operation per weekday. For example, the end time can be 03:00:00 if that is the ending time for a day shift. This also indicates when the current capacity is no longer available. |
Efficiency in percentage |
You can define the efficiency percentage to use when scheduling production during the interval. Scheduling time = time * 100/efficiency percentage. Note The time that is used in the formula includes both processing time and setup time. For example, if the efficiency percentage is 200, all scheduling times are reduced by 50 percent. You can define the efficiency percentage for both the operation time and the operations resource. The capacity is then calculated based on the efficiency percentage of both the operations resource and the working time. For example, you can use the efficiency percentage of operation times when shifts have different efficiencies. |
Property |
Select the property to use when you schedule and structure production. This enables you to run different productions with the same properties at the same time. Example Several productions include a painting operation that is set up to use the same color in a spray gun. To minimize setup time, productions that must be sprayed with a specific color can be combined. Production pools and properties can help you manage the production, and can be used separately. However, by using pools and properties at the same time, you can define a sorting criterion, so that production pools wait for productions with certain properties to be run. For example, you have set up the pool sequence Pool 1, Pool 2, Pool 3, and so on. Each pool combines productions with identical properties. Before Pool 1 can proceed to Pool 2, productions with properties 1, 2, and 3 must be produced. |
