Accessibility Features of Microsoft Dynamics NAV SharePoint Client

This topic provides information about the features of Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 that make Microsoft Dynamics NAV content on SharePoint sites more available to people with disabilities. Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 supports the accessibility features of Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010, which include the following:

  • More Accessible Mode

  • Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Navigation

  • Headings

  • Image and Links

  • Assistive Technologies

For more information about these features, see Accessibility Features in Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

More Accessible Mode

Assistive technologies, such as screen readers, can have difficulty rendering custom controls that are not standard HTML controls, such as a drop-down menu. The More Accessibility mode displays controls as standard HTML controls. This helps ensure the assistive technology tools can display the controls in a format that lets users interact with the controls.

To activate the More Accessibility Mode on a SharePoint site, press the Tab key until the Turn on more accessible mode link appears, and then press Enter.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework supports most the keyboard shortcuts that are supported by Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 with the following additions and exceptions.

For a complete list of keyboard shortcuts, see Keyboard Shortcuts for Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Keyboard Shortcut Additions

To do this Press

To scroll items up and down in a list.

Up Arrow, Down Arrow

To scroll columns of an item left and right in a list.

Left Arrow, Right Arrow

To open a drop-down list or look up a value for a field.

Alt+Down Arrow

The tabs and actions in the ribbon, and other controls on Microsoft Dynamics NAV pages and reports, follow a logical order. To move the focus from one tab, action, or control to another, press the TAB key to move forward. Press Shift+Tab to move backward.

Headings

The HTML source for Microsoft Dynamics NAV content uses tags to help users of assistive technology understand the structure and content of the page. For example, on list pages, the columns are defined in TH tags and the column headings are set with TITLE attribute inside the tag. Captions for elements, such as FastTabs, FactBoxes, and fields are included in heading tags (H1, H2, H3, and H4).

A descriptive text for images is set with the ALT attribute inside the IMG tag. A descriptive text for hyperlinks is set with the title attribute inside the A tag.

Assistive Technologies

Similar to Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010, Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 supports various assistive technologies, such as screen readers and voice recognition software. Some assistive technologies may not work well with certain elements on Microsoft Dynamics NAV content on a SharePoint site. If you experience problems, see the following information in the next section for possible solutions.

Important

When using assistive technologies with Microsoft Dynamics NAV Portal Framework, you should turn on the More Accessible Mode on the site.
