How to: Add Topics to an Existing Help Project

If you have an existing Help project, you can use the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Reference Help Generator to add new topics. This lets you update Help for solutions that are modified or extended.

To add topics to an existing Help project

  1. Start the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Reference Help Generator, and choose the Next button.

  2. On the Specify a Multilanguage file page, choose the multilanguage file that contains the objects that you want to generate documentation for. Use the Find button to locate the file on your computer. Choose the Next button.

    Note

The Language field is automatically filled in with the language that corresponds to the multilanguage file language. Choose the language that the Help will be written in.

  3. On the Specify object ID page, you can filter for the objects that you want to document. If you want to document all objects, choose the Select all objects option. For more information, see Using Filters in the Help Generator Wizard. Choose the Next button to continue.

    Note

Use the Preview Topic List button to see a list of the undocumented Help topics that will be generated.

  4. On the Specify what you want to generate page, choose the Add new topics to an existing help project option, and then choose the Next button.

  5. On the Specify additional options page, specify whether to look for documented topics in the specific project that you are updating or in the Help collection that belongs to the product. Choose the Next button to continue.

    Note

The Help collection can be postfix .htm files from the navnow Help Server, or alternatively HTML Help files postfixed .chm. The search for missing topics is performed only in the specified file.

  6. On the Specify HTML Help project details page, specify the HTML Help project file that you want to update. The tool searches for files that have the .hhp extension. On this page, you can also specify if you want the Help generated by the Reference Help Generator to be compiled with Help Builder. If this option is selected, Reference Help Generator will also generate Help Builder configuration files and a build script for you. For more information, see Help Builder. Choose the Next button to continue.

  7. On the Specify an additional documentation source page, select between using any text in the Description property on the object, or just leaving the topics empty to be filled in manually. Choose the Next button.

  8. On the Confirm settings page, review the specified settings. Use the Back button to change any of the settings. Choose Run to generate the topics.
