How to: Budget Acquisition Costs

To prepare a budget, you have to set up fixed asset cards for fixed assets that you intend to buy in the future. The budget fixed assets are set up as ordinary fixed assets.

To budget acquisition costs

  1. In the Search box, enter Fixed Assets, and then choose the related link.

  2. On the Home tab, choose New to create a new fixed asset card for the budgeted fixed asset.

  3. On the Posting FastTab, select the Budgeted Asset field to prevent posting to the general ledger.

  4. On the Navigate tab, in the Fixed Asset group, choose Depreciation Books to set up the FA depreciation books.

  5. In the Search box, enter FA Journals, and then choose the related link to open the Fixed Asset Journal window.

  6. Enter and post the budgeted acquisition cost. The FA Journal is used because budgeted assets are not integrated with general ledger.
