Customization: Configuration and Personalization

Customizing Microsoft Dynamics NAV is about how to change the way the system works to achieve a better fit-for-use for an individual customer. Microsoft Dynamics NAV is open for customization in a variety of ways, and has built-in user interface customization options for system administrators, business managers, and end users.

This topic outlines the available built-in customization options.

Built-in customization options

There are two ways to customize the user interface in Microsoft Dynamics NAV using the built-in customization options:

  • Personalization: Is when end users customize the user interface for them personally.

  • Configuration: Is when system administrators and business managers customize the user interface for individual user profiles.

The built-in customization is available using the Customize menu item in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV application menu:

In addition to the built-in customization options, you can also customize Microsoft Dynamics NAV by changing the programming and properties of the system objects in a customer’s system. However, this requires using the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Object Designer and is not described in this topic.
