Accounting Period GB Table

You set up accounting periods in this table. The accounting periods can be of type Date, Week, Month, Quarter and Year. You must at least create accounting period type Year (fiscal years).

You can use the accounting periods as a time reference in various places in the program, for example, when you are getting an overview of posted entries in a Balance/Budget window. In those windows you specify the length of the accounting period, such as one month or one quarter.

Important

You can set up accounting periods using different methods in the Accounting Periods window:

  • In the Functions group, choose Create Fiscal Year and then enter the starting date, number of months and month length in the Create Fiscal Year window. After this, Microsoft Dynamics NAV will automatically enter the accounting periods of type Month and Year in the Accounting Period table.

  • In the Functions group, Copy System Dates and then enter the period type and period start interval (for example 01/01/99..12/31/02). After this, Microsoft Dynamics NAV will automatically enter the matching dates from the system calendar in the Accounting Period table.

You can adjust accounting periods using a date formula. In the Functions group, choose Change Dates in the Accounting Periods window and then enter the period type, period start interval (for example, 01/01/99..12/31/02), and change date formula. Microsoft Dynamics NAV will automatically adjust the period start fields with the change date formula. After that, you have to update period end fields. To do this, in the Functions group, choose Correct Gaps/Overlaps in the Accounting Periods window.

To close a fiscal year, choose Close Year and then run the Close Income Statement batch job. When you post G/L entries to a closed fiscal year, Microsoft Dynamics NAV will mark the Prior-Year Entry field for those entries in the G/L Entry table. When you post to a closed fiscal year, you must always remember to run the Close Income Statement batch job to get the correct balances on the G/L accounts. Repeat the batch job each time you make a prior-year entry.
