How to: Rename Companies

You can rename companies in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client and the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client. You can also rename companies by using the Rename-NAVCompany Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

Before you rename a company, you should make sure that you are the only user who has access to the company. This is optional but recommended because it prevents others from making changes to the database while you are renaming it, which could cause problems.

To make sure that you are the only user who has access to the company

  1. Stop the DynamicsNAV110.

For more information, see How to: Start, Stop, Restart, or Remove a Microsoft Dynamics NAV Server Instance.

  2. In the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment, on the File menu, choose Database, and then choose Alter.

  3. Choose the Options tab, select the Single user check box, and then choose the OK button.

You can now rename the company in Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client, Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client, or by using the Rename-NAVCompany Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

You can only rename a company if you have the relevant permission.

To rename a company in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client

  1. In the Search box, enter Companies, and then choose the related link.

  2. Replace the current company name with the new name that you want to use.

  3. Choose the OK button to accept the new company name.

You can rename a company at any time. You can use this function if you have made a mistake when naming the company, or if you think that a different name will be easier to recognize. However, renaming a company that has been used and already contains data can take some time.

Note

When you work in the CRONUS demonstration database and use the Cronus.flf license file, you can only change the company name to one that starts with CRONUS with uppercase letters.
