Change the Display Name, E-Mail Address or Alias, or Description for Your Public Group

Applies to: Office 365 for professionals and small businesses, Office 365 for enterprises, Microsoft Exchange, Live@edu

You can change the display name, e-mail address or alias, and description for your group.

How do I change the display name, e-mail address or alias, or description for my group?

  1. From Outlook Web App, click Options > See All Options in the toolbar at the top of the window.
  2. Double-click your group located under Groups > Public Groups I Own, or click Details for your group.
  3. In the General section of the Group dialog box, change any of these settings for the group:
    • Display name   This information is required. The display name of the group will appear in the shared address book and on the To: line when e-mail is sent to this group. The display name should be unique and user-friendly so people will recognize the purpose of the group.
    • E-mail address or Alias   If you change the group's e-mail address or its alias -- the portion of the e-mail address that precedes the '@' symbol -- the older alias or e-mail address will still be identified with the group. If someone sends a message to the group using the old e-mail address, the message will still be delivered to the group. The alias or e-mail address is required, and it can't contain any spaces.
    • Description   You can update the description of the group in this box. Include a meaningful description of the group that tells people what the group is for. People in the shared address book can see this information when they double-click a group to try to join it.
  4. When you're done, click Save to keep your changes or click Cancel to close the dialog box.
