Displaying the Warnings in a Preset Filter

You can determine which warnings are included in a preset filter before you apply the filter to the log. To display the warnings in a filter, select the filter, and examine the list of filter components, as described in the following procedure.

To display the warnings in a preset filter:

In a build environment window, navigate to the directory in which you ran PREfast for Drivers.

Use a PREfast View command to open a Defect Log. For example, prefast view.

In the Defect Log, click Filter.

From the Presets drop-down list, select a filter.

Examine the filter components.

When you select a filter, all of the warnings that PREfast for Drivers can report are displayed in the warning list, even if they are not reported in the Defect Log that is opened.

  • Warnings that are checked are included in the filter. They appear wherever they are reported in the log.

  • Warnings that are not checked are filtered out of the log. They do not appear in the log even if they are reported.

The following screen shot shows the contents of the drivers_all preset filter. It shows that Warning 6029 is displayed and Warning 6031 is hidden. To see all of the warnings in the filter, scroll through the warning list.

You can apply the preset filter or create a custom filter by checking selecting and clearing the check boxes for the warnings and warning sets. For more information, see Using the Warning List.
