Public Data Sources

MapPoint Web Service hosts a variety of data sources that are used for the find, route, and render services. Public data sources contain geographic map data, point-of-interest data, traffic incident data, and icons. Public data sources are used to render maps with a number of different map styles and languages. The maps for Europe, North America, Brazil, Australia, and the world also contain political entities and other point-of-interest data such as airports, bus stations, historical sites, and parks. These data sources are available to all customers, unlike your custom data sources that you upload for your use only. The following list outlines the public data sources and their capabilities:

  • MapPoint.AP -Map data for Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore; functionality includes CanDrawMaps, CanFindAddress, CanFindPlaces, and CanRoute.

  • MapPoint.BR - Map data for Brazil; functionality includes CanDrawMaps, CanFindAddress, CanFindPlaces, and CanRoute.

  • MapPoint.EU - Map data for Europe; functionality includes CanDrawMaps, CanFindAddress, CanFindPlaces, and CanRoute.

  • MapPoint.FourthCoffeeSample -Sample location data for Fourth Coffee Company, a fictitious company that is used for demonstration purposes; functionality includes CanFindNearby.

  • MapPoint.FourthCoffeeDeliveryAreas -Sample polygon data for Fourth Coffee Company, a fictitious company that is used for demonstration purposes.

  • MapPoint.Icons -Stock icons images that you can use with the Pushpin object to mark locations on a rendered map. You can view the images in this data source on the Stock Icon Images page of the CSS.

  • MapPoint.Moon -Map data for the moon; functionality includes CanDrawMaps.

  • MapPoint.NA -Map data for the United States and Canada; functionality includes CanDrawMaps, CanFindAddress, CanFindPlaces, and CanRoute.

  • MapPointNAICS.NA-Point-of-interest data provided by NAVTEQ® for the United States and Canada; functionality includes CanFindNearby.

  • MapPointTravel.TrafficAreas -Polygon data defining the regions for which MapPoint provides traffic incident data; functionality includes CanFindNearby.

  • MapPointTravel.TrafficIncidents -Traffic incident data for the regions defined in MapPointTravel.TrafficAreas; functionality includes CanFindNearby.

  • MapPoint.World -Map data for the world; functionality includes CanDrawMaps and CanFindPlaces.

  • MapPoint.WorldRoutable -Map and route data for the world, optimized for routing; functionality includes CanDrawMaps, CanFindPlaces, and CanRoute.

  • NavTech.EU -Point-of-interest data by NAVTEQ® for Europe; functionality includes CanFindNearby.

  • NavTech.NA -Point-of-interest data provided by NAVTEQ for United States and Canada; functionality includes CanFindNearby.

Notes

  • The supported functionality for the MapPoint.EU data source varies by locale. The MapPoint.EU data source provides CanDrawMaps, CanFindAddress, CanFindPlaces, and CanRoute capabilities for Austria; Belgium; Czech Republic; Denmark; Finland (Uusimaa, Häme, and Pirkanmaa regions); France; Germany; Greece (Athens area only); Italy; Luxembourg; Netherlands; Norway; Portugal; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland; and United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland). MapPoint.EU also supports CanDrawMaps, CanFindAddress, CanFindPlaces, and CanRoute for limited areas of Ireland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City.

  • The Singapore data included in the MapPoint.AP data source does not include support for postal codes.

  • To find addresses in Greece (Athens only), the address must be in Latin characters.
