Update linked data

If your data map is linking to a data source that has been subsequently changed, you can update your linked data in MapPoint as well. For example, you may want your MapPoint data map to reflect address changes made to your Microsoft Outlook Contacts.

On the Data menu, click Update Linked Records.

Notes

If new records have been added to your source data, or if you have changed the way your data is mapped, you may have to match unmatched records the next time you open your data map.

How?

To see how many records are unmatched or skipped, in the map legend, right-click the given data set containing the updated records, click Properties, and then click the Matching tab.

To update linked data using the command prompt

You may want to update a data map created with linked data with source file changes using the command prompt to automate the update process. For example, you can use the Microsoft Windows Scheduled Tasks feature to nightly update a map that reflects daily sales figures.

  1. From the command prompt, type:

    <MapPoint installation directory>\MapPoint.exe /U "<filename>"

where filename is the full path and name of the map file that contains linked data.

  2. Press ENTER.

Notes

Updating the map using the command prompt cannot be done if the map file is open at the time.

For help with scheduling tasks, click Start Windows Start button and then click Help.
