Stack drawings on the map

When you draw an object on top of an existing one, you create an overlapping stack. You can overlap as many drawings as you want and then rearrange the stack by using the commands on the Draw menu.

1. Select the drawing that you want to move, and then click Draw at the left end of the Drawing toolbar.

2. On the Draw menu, do one of the following:

   Click Bring to Front or Send to Back to move a drawing to the front or send it to the back of a stack of layered drawings.

   Click Bring Forward or Send Backward to move a drawing forward or backward one level in a stack of layered drawings.

   Click Bring in Front of Roads or Send Behind Roads to display a drawing in front of or behind the roads on the map.

Note  When you use the Send Behind Roads command, features other than roads (such as borders, time zone boundaries, rivers and streams, mountains and volcanoes, and place names and symbols) are displayed in front of the drawing.

Tip  When stacking drawings that have fill colors, the larger drawings can hide the smaller drawings, depending on the order of stacking and whether or not the shapes are all in front of roads or all behind roads. In order to avoid this problem, create all drawings that appear in close proximity to one another either in front of or behind roads.

Use Send to Back to send the largest shape to the back of the stack and Bring to Front to bring the smallest shape to the front of the stack.

Use Bring Forward or Send Backward to bring intermediate shapes in front of larger shapes and behind smaller shapes.

If you have trouble seeing the smaller shapes, select the largest shape, and use the TAB key to browse through the stack. When the sizing handles appear on a smaller hidden shape, you can then use Bring to Front to move the hidden drawing to the front of the stack.
