Configure a Global Address List (GAL)
For this procedure, in Management Agent Designer, on the Configure GAL page, you can configure the Active Directory GAL container and Exchange settings for the forest to be synchronized. To complete this procedure, you must be logged on as a member of the FIMSyncAdmins security group.
To configure global address list (GAL) - GAL container configuration
In Management Agent Designer, on the Configure GAL page, in Specify the destination container for contacts synchronized to this forest, click Target.
In Target Container, in Select a partition, click the partition that contains those containers in this forest to be used when synchronizing contacts from other forests, then click Container, and then select a container that will be the destination container for contacts. To filter and select specific containers where permissions or schema configuration do not allow you to select higher-level containers or to exclude specific containers, click Advanced, and then, in Advanced Container, do any of the following:
To add a container, in Specify additional container to add, type the container name, click Include, and then click Add.
To exclude a specific container when its parent container is selected, in Specify additional container to add, type the container name, click Exclude container, and then click Add.
To remove a container, in Containers to synchronize, click a container, and then click Remove.
To select containers in this forest with authoritative contacts that will be synchronized to other forests as contacts, in Containers with authoritative contacts in this forest, click Source, in Source Containers, in Select a partition, click Add Containers. To remove a container, click the container in Containers, and then click Remove Container.
Note
Authoritative contacts are mail-enabled contacts that are used to project to the metaverse, which then get exported as contacts to the target forests. Only the authoritative contacts that are in the containers specified in step 3 will be projected to the metaverse, and thus exported to the target forests.
To configure global address list (GAL) - Exchange configuration
In Exchange configuration, in SMTP mail suffixes managed by Exchange in this forest, to configure a mail suffix for users and groups or for contacts, click Edit then in SMTP Mail Suffix, type a suffix and then click Add.
To specify if mail to contacts exported into this forest should be routed through the source forest, select Route mail through this forest for all contacts created from contacts in this forest.
To specify an administrative group that will be associated with contacts synchronized into this forest, select Specify an administrative group to enable interoperability with Exchange 5.5 and Active Directory Connector environments, then click Edit, in Administrative Group, click a primary group and secondary group (if more than one administrative groups are available).
If you are connecting to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, select Support cross-forest delegation (Exchange 2007 only).
Note
When you select containers, a blue check mark in a white box next to a container indicates that the parent container and all of the child containers are selected. A white check mark in a gray box indicates that the parent container is selected and that one or more child containers are not selected. No check mark in a grey box indicates that at least one child container is selected, but the parent container is not selected.
