Add File Dialog Box (Explorer)

Adds files to a Visual SourceSafe project.

Dialog Box Access

In Visual SourceSafe Explorer, access the Add File to <name> dialog box, then click Add.

  • Advanced
    Displays advanced options for adding files. Possible options are:

    Option Description

    Store only latest version

    Specifies that only the latest version of the file will be stored in the database at any time. Visual SourceSafe keeps a file history of change records with comments. However, older versions of the file are not stored and you cannot recover them.

    Note

    To increase performance and save disk space, use this option when storing executable programs in the database.

    Check Out immediately

    Checks out the file(s) to you immediately after adding them to the project.

    Remove local copy

    Deletes the file(s) from your working folder after adding to the database.

    File type

    Specifies the file type. Possible settings are Binary, ANSI/MBCS, Unicode (UTF-8), Unicode, Unicode (Big Endian), and Auto-detect (default).

    • Apply same comment for all
      Uses the same comment for all files being added (default). If this check box is cleared, you can enter a separate comment for each file.
    • Comment for
      Specifies a comment describing the file(s). The comment can contain up to 4096 characters.
