How to: Add Resources

Some settings are not available in the Settings and Constraints Editor until you add the resources that contain them. Examples of settings that you will need to add include those in configuration files such as Web.config and application pools. For a complete list of resources associated with each application, logical server, endpoint, or zones, see Web Application Resources. You can author new resources using the System Definition Model (SDM) Software Development Kit (SDK). For more information, visit the System Definition Model (SDM) SDK Workshop online.

Use the following procedure to add a settings resource.

To add a resource using the Settings and Constraints Editor

  1. Select the application, logical server, or endpoint to which you want to add a resource.

  2. On Diagram menu, choose Settings and Constraints.

The Settings and Constraints Editor appears.

  3. Under Settings, navigate to the node to which you want to add a resource.

For example, for a Web application, navigate to the Configuration node.

  4. On the Diagram menu, point to Add Resource/Settings Group.

    Note

You can also right-click the node in the Settings and Constraints Editor and point to Add Resource.

If available, a list of available resources appears.

  5. Select a resource to add.

The selected resource will appear under the node you originally selected.

  6. Select the newly added resource node to modify or view the associated settings in the right pane of the Settings and Constraints Editor.
