Using DCOM to Customize Security Settings
To enable remote administration of a Windows Media server, you must perform the following steps.
- Click Start, click Run, type DCOMCnfg, and then click OK.
- In the \\Component Services\Computers\My Computer\DCOM Config node of the Component Services Microsoft Management Console (MMC), right-click Windows Media Services, and then click Properties.
- In the Windows Media Services Properties dialog box, click the Security tab.
- In the Launch Permissions group box, click Edit.
- Click Add and specify the users who have permission to launch the server. Specify the appropriate launch permission, and then click OK.
- In the Access Permissions group box, click Edit.
- Click Add and specify the users who have permission to access the server. Specify the appropriate access permission, and then click OK.
- In the Configuration Permissions group box, click Edit.
- Click Add and specify the users who have permission to configure the server. Specify the appropriate configuration permissions, and then click OK.
- Restart Windows Media Services to ensure that your new settings take effect immediately.
