Styles

Styles are building blocks containing basic information that can be used to create many different pieces of music based on common rhythmic and melodic ideas. Style-based segments can vary greatly during playback and can respond subtly to program events.

Data in a style can include tempo, a time signature, one or more bands, and a variety of musical patterns. When a segment containing a style is played, patterns are drawn from the style and played with some degree of randomness. The selection of patterns is also determined in part by commands that can be programmed in the groove track or issued at run time by applications. Some patterns, designated as motifs, can be played explicitly by an application or script.
