Add Logoff to the Start Menu
User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar
Description
Adds the Log Off <username> item to the Start menu and prevents users from removing it.
If you enable this policy, the Log Off <username> item appears in the Start menu. Also, the system ignores the option set in the Display Logoff check box in Start Menu Settings. As a result, users cannot remove the Log Off <username> item from the Start menu while this policy is in effect.
If you disable this policy or do not configure it, users can use the Display Logoff item to add and remove the Log Off <username> item.
Note
This policy affects the Start menu only. It does not affect the Log Off item on the Windows Security dialog box that appears when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL.
The Disable Logoff on the Start Menu policy takes precedence over the Add Logoff to the Start Menu policy. When both policies are enabled, the Log Off <username> option is removed.
This policy was documented incorrectly on the Explain tab in Group Policy. The Explain tab states incorrectly that this policy removes the Display Logoff item. Also, the procedure for setting the Display Logoff item is incorrect.
Tip
To display the Log Off <username> item, click Start, point to Settings, click Taskbar & Start Menu, click the Advanced tab, and then, under Start Menu Settings, select Display Logoff.
