Files not cached
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files
Description
Lists types of files that cannot be used offline. This policy lets you override the system's default list of file types that are never cached for offline use.
By default, the system never caches files of the following types, as identified by their file name extension:
File name extension | File type |
---|---|
.slm | Microsoft Source Library Management file |
.mdb | Microsoft Access database file |
.ldb | Microsoft Access security file |
.mdw | Microsoft Access Workgroup file |
.mde | Microsoft Access compiled module file |
.pst | Microsoft Outlook personal folder file |
.db? | Generic database file |
The list you create in this policy replaces the system's default list of non-cached files. Thus, to add a file to the default list, type a list that includes the default files and the type you are adding. To remove a file type from this list, type a list that includes all file types in the default list, except for the type you are removing.
To use this policy, type the file name extension in the Extensions box, preceded by an asterisk and a period (*.). To type more than one extension, separate the extensions with a semicolon (;).
The system maintains a list of non-cached files to protect files that cannot be separated, such as database components. Non-cached files are excluded from automatic and manual caching for offline use. The system does not cache files of the type specified even when they reside on a network share configured for automatic caching. Also, if users try to make a file of this type available offline, the operation will fail and the following message will be displayed in the Synchronization Manager Progress dialog box:
Files of this type cannot be made available offline
