Remove Favorites menu from Start Menu

User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar

Description

Prevents users from adding the Favorites menu to the Start menu.

The Favorites menu does not appear on the Start menu by default. If you enable this policy, the Display Favorites item, which lets users add the Favorites menu, does not appear in the Start Menu Settings box.

The items that appear in the Favorites menu when you install Windows 2000 are preconfigured by the system to appeal to most users. However, users can add and remove items from this menu, and system administrators can create a customized Favorites menu for a user group.

Note Image Note

This policy only affects the Start menu. The Favorites item still appears in Windows Explorer and in Internet Explorer.

Tip-icon Tip

To display the Favorites menu, click Start, point to Settings, click Taskbar & Start Menu, click the Advanced tab, and then, under Start Menu Settings, select Display Favorites. (This procedure was documented incorrectly on the Explain tab in Group Policy.)
