Check Boxes

Use a check box only when it provides choices that are opposite and unambiguous.

Consider the following when you include check boxes in an application:

  • The entire line that includes the check box and the label should show focus, with the exception of Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer. In this application, only the check box shows focus.
  • Limit the number of check boxes in the user interface. If you need to include several options, consider using a list view control instead of multiple check boxes. For more information, see List Views.

State Attributes

The following illustrations show the appearance of the check box control in its different states.

Label Attributes

Use the label to specify the affirmative option, such as Enable ClearType instead of Disable ClearType. Keep the label brief to conserve space.

Use the 11pt, Nina black font.
