This page documents a feature of the Windows Media Player 6.4 ActiveX control. We recommend that you migrate your content to use the Windows Media Player 9 Series ActiveX control. For more information about the Windows Media Player 9 Series ActiveX control, see the Windows Media Player 9 Series SDK.
This property retrieves a value indicating whether the current file supports scanning.
Syntax
MediaPlayer.CanScan
Possible Values
This property is a read-only Boolean.
Remarks
If the value of this property is true, the current file can be scanned (fast-forwarded or fast-reversed), provided that the AllowScan property is set to true.
If a media file has not been selected for the player, by setting the FileName property or calling the Open method, the value of this property will be false.
Video on demand (VOD) and Windows Media files both support scanning; however, Windows Media content can be scanned only if the following conditions are all true:
- The file is indexed.
- The file is playing from a Microsoft NetShow unicast server (not playing locally).
- The file is not being broadcast.
