Known issues

Application Insights Tools

If you use Visual Studio Update 1, and you have upgraded to the 4.2 version of "Application Insights Tools for Visual Studio 2015," installing Microsoft Visual Studio Update 2 CTP and starting it causes errors that are related to not being able to load the "Microsoft.VisualStudio.ApplicationInsights.Interfaces" assembly. Additionally, you may see this error when you create Universal App projects.

Workaround:

This issue is fixed and applies to any new installations of Visual Studio Update 2 CTP. However, if you have a computer in this state, follow these steps to fix the issue:

  • Open Control Panel, and then click Programs.

  • Click Uninstall a program.

  • Select Application Insights Tools for Visual Studio 2015 in the list.

  • Click Change.

Visual Studio extensions cache not updated

After you install Visual Studio Update 2 CTP, any installer or VSIX that runs /setup or /updateConfiguration (for example, ASP.NET 5 RC1 U1), will not update the extensions cache correctly. This can lead to numerous issues. However, in the context of the Web Tooling you may see the following:

  • Server Explorer is missing the App Service node.

  • The Web Project Publish command is nonfunctional.

  • Frequent package load failures occur, and notifications continue until they are disabled.

Workaround:

  • Close Visual Studio.

  • Open a developer Command Prompt window as an administrator for Visual Studio 2015. (Search on "developer command" to locate the executable.)

  • Run the following command:

    devenv /setup

LightSwitch project creation

  • You may experience some issues when you create new LightSwitch projects.

    Workaround:

For the optimal experience when you use LightSwitch project, revert to Visual Studio 2015 Update 1. We will resolve this issue in the next official update.
