Interoperability

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

The only supported client/server combinations in a mixed environment are as follows:

  • Communicator Web Access (2005 release) with legacy presence users homed on Live Communications Server 2005 with SP1

  • Communicator Web Access (2005 release) with legacy presence users homed on Office Communications Server 2007

  • Communicator Web Access (2007 release) with enhanced presence users homed on Office Communications Server 2007

Both Office Communicator 2007 and Communicator Web Access have a mechanism that changes the user's status after there has been a period of inactivity. In Office Communicator 2007, the user's status changes to Away; however, because Communicator Web Access is a Web service, it can detect activity only in the service itself. As a result, after a period of Communicator Web Access inactivity, the user's status in Communicator Web Access appears to other users as Inactive, even though the user may still be actively using other programs on his or her computer.

For examples of interoperability, see Appendix F: Interoperability Examples.
