Voice over IP (VoIP) provides an attractive alternative to traditional PBX-based telephony. Planning for VoIP differs from other Office Communications Server planning tasks in that you must consider the impact on both your telephony and IP infrastructures. Microsoft's software-powered VoIP solution, Enterprise Voice, has a modest hardware requirement and does not require you to replace your existing PBX. Additionally, Office Communications Server 2007 R2 provides call management features and functionality that can facilitate implementation of effective routing and answering of calls, and it offers support for USB-attached phones and other telephony devices that support integration of the user’s phone with other client collaboration features of Office Communications Server 2007 R2.
