Configure SQL Server Back-End Database
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition requires SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2005 with SP2 on the Back-End Database Server. Additionally, Office Communications Server 2007 R2 requires a SQL Server host for the Archiving Server and Monitoring Server. For details about configuration requirements, see Configure SQL Server for Office Communications Server in the Deploying Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition documentation.
Deploying Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition requires a separate SQL Server to provide the Back-End Database Server. For details about deploying a Back-End Database Server, see the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Enterprise Edition Deployment Guiden documentation.
The Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Standard Edition deployment tool will automatically install SQL Server Express on the Standard Edition server. For details about deploying a Standard Edition server, see the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Standard Edition Deployment Guide documentation.
If you are currently using SQL Server 2000, you will need to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2005 SP2 before you deploy Office Communications Server 2007 R2. For details about upgrading SQL Server, see the SQL Server documentation.
Office Communications Server 2007 R2 requires new database instances. The new databases will be created automatically when you install the new Enterprise pool.
