Communicator Web Access Performance Counters

The performance counters listed in this appendix describe activity on an individual Communicator Web Access server or, if Communicator Web Access is deployed behind a load balancer, on the corresponding array of Communicator Web Access servers.

The following table describes the search performance counters that are available in Communicator Web Access (2007 release) CWA – 00 – Directory Search performance object.

Name Description

CWA – 000 – Outstanding searches

Total number of outstanding Active Directory searches in the Directory Search component of the Communicator Web Access server.

CWA – 001 – Total searches

Total number of Active Directory searches performed by the Directory Search component of the Communicator Web Access server.

CWA – 002 – Searches/sec

Total number of Active Directory searches per second performed by the Directory Search component of the Communicator Web Access server.

CWA – 003 – LDAP errors

Total number of Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) errors that have occurred during Communicator Web Access directory search operations.

CWA – 004 – LDAP errors/sec

Number of LDAP errors per second during directory search operations.

CWA – 005 – Total searches denied because the configuration limit was exceeded

Total number of Communicator Web Access client searches that were not allowed because the server configuration limit for the total outstanding searches was exceeded.

CWA – 006 – Search Latency (ms)

Average time, in milliseconds, it takes to perform a Communicator Web Access LDAP search.

Authentication Performance Counters (CWA – 01 – Authentication Module)

The following table describes the authentication performance counters that are available in Communicator Web Access (2007 release) CWA – 01 – Authentication Module performance object.

Name Description

CWA – 000 – Outstanding logons

Total number of browsers that are currently attempting to sign in to Communicator Web Access.

CWA – 001 – Successful forms auth logons

Total number of successful sign-ins that used forms-based authentication since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 002 – Successful forms auth logon attempts/sec

Number of successful sign-ins per second that use forms-based authentication.

CWA – 003 – Forms auth logon failures

Total number of failed sign-in attempts that used forms-based authentication.

CWA – 004 – Forms auth logon failures/sec

Number of failed sign-in attempts per second that used forms-based authentication.

CWA – 005 – Successful IWA auth logons

Total number of successful sign-ins that used Internet Information Services (IIS) authentication, including NTLM, Kerberos, and single sign on (SSO), since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 006 – Successful IWA auth logons/sec

Number of successful sign-ins per second that used IIS authentication, including NTLM, Kerberos, and SSO.

CWA – 007- IWA auth logon failures

Total number of failed sign-in attempts that used IIS authentication, including NTLM, Kerberos, and SSO, since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 008 – IWA auth logon failures/sec

Number of failed sign-in attempts per second that used IIS authentication, including NTLM, Kerberos, and SSO.

CWA – 009 – Outstanding authorization attempts

Total number of outstanding sign-in requests that have been authenticated, but are not yet authorized.

CWA – 010 – Authorizations denied

Total number of authenticated sign-in requests for which authorization was denied since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 011 – Authorizations denied/sec

Number of authenticated sign-in requests per second for which authorization was denied.

CWA – 012 – LDAP error total

Total number of authorization failures that were due to LDAP errors during binds and searches since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 013 – LDAP errors/sec

Number of authorization failures per second that were due to LDAP errors.

CWA – 014 – Logons denied due to server throttling

Total number of sign-in attempts that were not allowed because of server throttling under heavy resource consumption.

CWA – 015 – Logons denied due to server throttling/sec

Number of sign-in attempts per second that were not allowed because of server throttling under heavy resource consumption.

CWA – 016 – Average latency for successful authorization

Average time in milliseconds it takes to perform a successful authorization.

Security Performance Counters (CWA – 02 – Security)

The following table describes the security performance counters that are available in Communicator Web Access (2007 release) CWA – 02 – Security performance object. A spike in the number of ticket check failures can be symptomatic of a denial-of-service attack or an attempt to break into the system.

CWA – 001 – Requests rejected due to invalid ticket

Total number of sign-in requests that were rejected because of an invalid ticket in the request since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 002 – Requests rejected due to invalid ticket/sec

Number of sign-in requests per second that were rejected because of an invalid ticket in the request.

Service Performance Counters (CWA – 03 – User session Service)

The following table describes the service performance counters that are available in Communicator Web Access (2007 release) CWA – 03 – User services Session performance object.

Name Description

CWA – 000 – Total sessions

Total number of Office Communications Server user sessions that have been initiated from Communicator Web Access clients since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 001 – Sessions/sec

Number of user sessions per second that are initiated from Communicator Web Access clients with Office Communications Server.

CWA – 002 - Sessions

Number of Communicator Web Access user sessions that are currently active.

CWA – 003 – Peak concurrent sessions

Peak number of concurrent user sessions that have been initiated from Communicator Web Access clients since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 004 – Sessions failed to sign in

Total number of user sessions initiated from Communicator Web Access clients that failed to sign in to Office Communications Server since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started. (Users are authenticated and authorized by Communicator Web Access server, but not by Office Communications Server.)

CWA – 005 – Sessions failed to sign in/sec

Communicator Web Access user sessions per second that failed to sign in to Office Communications Server. (Users are authenticated and authorized by Communicator Web Access server, but not by Office Communications Server.)

CWA – 006 – Sessions signing in

Number of Communicator Web Access users who are currently signing in to Office Communications Server.

CWA – 007 – Total sessions timed out

Total number of Communicator Web Access user sessions that timed out because of communication failure with clients.

CWA – 008 – Sessions timeout/sec

Communicator Web Access user sessions per second that timed out.

CWA – 009 – Average session sign in latency (ms)

Average time, in milliseconds, that it takes a Communicator Web Access user sign in to establish an Office Communications Server session.

CWA – 011 – Average session lifetime (sec)

Average lifetime, in seconds, of a Communicator Web Access session in Office Communications Server.

CWA – 013 – Total requests

Total number of requests that have been processed in the session service since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started. Requests include both user-initiated actions on the client and software-initiated polling requests.

CWA – 014 – Requests/sec

New session requests per second from Communicator Web Access clients to Office Communications Server.

CWA – 015 – Requests in processing

Number of Communicator Web Access client requests that are currently being processed.

CWA – 016 – Requests to nonexistent sessions

Total number of requests that have targeted nonexistent sessions since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 017 – Requests to nonexistent sessions/sec

Number of Communicator Web Access client requests per second that are targeting nonexistent sessions.

CWA – 018 – Total requests failed

Total number of requests that failed to process since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 019 – Requests failed/sec

Communicator Web Access client requests per second that failed to process.

CWA – 020 – Total polling requests

Total number of software-initiated polling requests that have been processed since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 021 – Polling requests/sec

Incoming software-initiated client polling requests per second in Communicator Web Access.

CWA – 022 – Polling requests in processing

Total number of polling requests that are currently being served.

CWA – 023 – Total instant message sessions

Total number of instant messaging (IM) sessions that have been established since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 024 – Instant message sessions/sec

IM sessions established per second.

CWA – 025 – Instant message sessions

Current number of active IM sessions.

CWA – 026 – Total instant messages sent

Total number of instant messages sent since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 027 – Instant messages sent/sec

Instant messages sent per second.

CWA – 028 – Total instant messages failed to deliver

Total number of instant messages for which delivery failed since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 029 – Instant messages failed to deliver/sec

Instant messages per second for which delivery failed.

CWA – 030 – Total instant messages received

Total number of instant messages received since the Communicator Web Access virtual server was started.

CWA – 031 – Instant messages received/sec

Instant messages received per second.

CWA – 032 – Total times of server throttling

CWA – 033 – Server throttling state

The reason for throttling of new sign-ins:

  • 0: Throttling is off.
  • 1: Throttling due to low available memory (including physical memory and page files, and user mode virtual address space).
  • 2: Throttling due to high system CPU usage.
  • 3: Throttling due to both low available memory and high CPU usage.

CWA – 034 – Total times of invalid requests

Total number of times that the Communicator Web Access virtual server detected invalid requests (that is, malformed XML or syntactically invalid requests).
