Before You Begin Migrating From Live Communications Server 2005
Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.
Ensure that servers running Live Communications Server 2005 have the following updates installed:
Live Communications Server 2005 Service Pack 1 for Standard and Enterprise Editions, available at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140892.
Knowledge Base article 911996, “Description of the update for Live Communications Server 2005: February 10, 2006, rereleased July 11, 2006,” available at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=132177.
Knowledge Base article 921543, “Description of the Live Communications Server 2005 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: July 21, 2006,” available at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140865.
Knowledge Base article 950614, “Description of the update for Live Communications Server 2005 Service Pack 1: September 2008,” available at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140105.
Knowledge Base article 949280, “Description of the Communicator 2005 hotfix rollup package: December 19, 2008,” available at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=139875.
These updates are required to provide proper coexistence between Live Communications Server and Office Communications Server 2007 R2. These updates must be installed on all servers running Live Communications Server, including the Back-End Database Server for an Enterprise pool.
For performance reasons, we recommend that you move the Live Communications Server Global Settings to the Configuration container in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). You must take this action prior to performing any other Office Communications 2007 R2 installation actions. If you do not take this step now, you will not be able to take it after you begin deploying Office Communications Server 2007 R2. For details, see Migrating Global Settings Container in the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Deployment documentation.
