A Web server running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.x or later is an integral part of a complete Speech Server deployment.
IIS is included with Windows Server 2003, Windows??XP Professional SP2, and Windows Vista. However, you must explicitly install IIS the first time it is used with Speech Server. For IIS installation instructions, see Speech Server Requirements.
The Web server hosts Web-based voice response applications, including application resources such as prompt databases and grammar files. It generates the application Web pages that contain VoiceXML, HTML, SALT, and scripts. A VoiceXML interpreter and a SALT interpreter, installed with Speech Server, connect to the Web server. The Web server hosts ASP.NET pages (.aspx) for applications developed using Speech Server Developer Tools or ASP.NET Speech Controls.
Prompt Database
A prompt database is an application-specific repository of prerecorded sound files used by the Speech Engine Services??(SES) speech output engines. To improve prompt quality, and therefore the quality of the speech output, consider hiring a professional to record the prompts for the database.
Grammar Files
A grammar file contains a structured list of words and phrases that Speech API (SAPI) parses for the SES speech recognition engine. Grammars are specific to applications developed for Speech Server.
