To view rights for a specific item

  1. Type the item's URL in the URL text box.
  2. Select the display options you prefer, or click Show Default Selections for commonly displayed options.
  3. Click Go to display security settings.

Note  You can use this application on secured servers using Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS). However, you will get an access denied error if you load the application using HTTPS but attempt to view an item's security settings by entering its HTTP: URL in the URL text box. Do not mix HTTPS: and HTTP: URLs when using this application.

To modify users and groups and their rights

The following figure shows the settings.asp page of the Exchange Application Security Module sample application.

  1. In the Security Settings dialog box, select a user or group in the displayed list. The rights for the selected user or group appear in the permissions frame, the bottom half of the dialog box. If you want to show an advanced list of permissions, click Show Advanced.
  2. Select the rights to be granted to the user or group, or clear the rights that you want to deny. Instead of setting individual rights, you can apply the user or group to a role by selecting from a list of predefined legacy roles.
  3. Click Apply to save the settings. If you want to view the rights for another item, type the URL in the URL text box and click Go.
  4. If you want to add a user or group, click Add user/group. A dialog box appears for searching and adding users and groups. You can only add groups if they have e-mail addresses.
  5. If you want to remove a user or group, click Remove. A message appears asking you to confirm the removal.
  6. Click OK or Apply.

Note  The Exchange Application Security Module does not allow setting permissions on items that have inherited access control entries (ACEs). Consequently, if the URL you provided references an item that only has inherited permissions, then you will not be able to modify any of the existing users or groups, but you can add new users or groups.
