Security Checks for XML Expansion Packs [Office 2003 SDK Documentation]

When a document linked to an XML expansion pack is loaded by Microsoft® Office 2003, several layers of security checks are performed before these files are downloaded to the user's computer. This ensures that only trusted components are allowed to be downloaded and executed as part of the smart document. The following diagram shows how Office 2003 determines whether an XML expansion pack meets security checks before installation and whether to load a smart document solution into Microsoft Office Word 2003 or Microsoft Office Excel 2003.
