Running Unsigned Add-in Samples [Office 2003 SDK Documentation]

The samples included in the download are unsigned.

Since the unmanaged smart tag DLLs included in the SDK download is not code signed, they won't run at certain Office security settings. To run an unsigned smart tag DLL it is recommended that the security settings for each smart tag supporting application is set to Medium, with the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box cleared. It is recommended that you use these settings only in a testing environment.

(If you are unfamiliar with how to change Office security settings, see the "Prepare An Office Application Security Settings for Testing" below)

Note  For detail discussions about Office 2003 security settings options and default settings, see the Office 2003 Security Options Matrix topic.

Caution  By setting the security level to Medium, with the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box cleared, users will have the choice to either enable or disable unsigned add-ins and VBA macros when they are prompted. If your security level is set to High, with the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box cleared, all unsigned add-ins and VBA macros will be disabled automatically. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that all users keep their security levels set to High with the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box cleared.
